SUMMERTIME STRIPER FISHING

Jun 30, 2010

With the summer heat now upon us, the tactics change from our regular spring fishery. The Stripers targeted now will be in the 18"-28" range. There are a couple ways to get in on the action and have a load of fun.

Trolling small Tandem Rigs of Bucktails is always a good bet. The Snapper Bluefish can give your plastics a good chewin so its wise to have a couple spoons and spoon umbrella rigs in the spread.

If you are into jigging for the fish, its a real good bet if you see birds...You will find fish. Try to get ahead of the breaking fish and let the school come to you. The larger fish are usually deeper than the small breakers on top. Vertical jigging with a 1/2oz. to 1oz jighead and Striper Assassin will usually get the job done.

Flounder are in the bays now also. Flounder Rigs fished on a fishfinder rig trimmed with squid, bull minnows or cut Bluefish belly will surely put a few flatties in the box

Remember to always wear sunscreen and take plenty of water. The heat can be brutal on the water, especially on those days with little or no wind.

As always...be safe and have a great time catchin those big ones!
